Le Tour
I can't wait.
Ain't nothing going to be sorted out.
Lance and Contador will be going at each others throats.

The newest singlespeeder

Dest hasn't been on a bike in 15 years. Yesterday she rode Rachael's Rigid 29er Singlespeed out at the Mesa, on trails that aren't beginner rated. I actually expected her to walk a lot more than she did but she rode a bunch of it just fine. And, let that be a lesson for you short people that think you can't go the way of the big wheel. She is 5'2" and handled the bike just fine. You have to go custom though. Stock will be pretty hit and miss when you are that short.

The main reason for heading down was to clear and clean the trails. Almost 4 hours of raking but well worth the effort for 5-6 months of good trail riding. Plus Gage got to give back to the trails he rides and maybe we'll eventually get the other tow juniors out there hooked on mountainbiking.

Expo Juniors at Iola
Gage made it look easy at Iola. 1st place in age and 16 overall.

He must be doing some secret training I don't know about. Brandon Led the way for the first part of the lap.

You have to love it when a couple of 15 year olds on singlespeeds are killing the front of a sport race. Now they just have to learn to stay awake on the podium.

Myles took third in the new Junior X category. He also would have been 14th overall in the Comp class!

Nate was 5th in Junior X and didn't get lapped by any of the Elite's. That's a good goal for every Comp and JuniorX racer.

Theo broke a chain after running really well.

Mitch tried to break his chain but instead jammed into tight into his chainstay and rings with no hope of removing it.

Not sure exactly what he's doing with his tongue there...
Keaton got an untimely flat.

Aris in his first Elite race.

Gus was rocking the fixie. That was some crazy sketchy descending.

Stupid Quotes

"There is still a force, there is a desire, there is still a dream: to win the Tour de France and, most importantly, to restore my good name and prove that one and a half years ago I did not use any banned substance. I want to prove that I can win without doping," Vinokourov told sports.kz.
So in 2007 he won the first TT and he won stage 15 in the Tour. Now in the same sentence he says that he didn't use any banned substance but wants to show he can win without doping? Is he saying he won those stages in 07 without doping or by doping? I don't get it? Maybe it was just a bad translation?

From Cycling news: Tom Boonen says he may have used cocaine on an afternoon when he had too much to drink. However, he claims to have had a black-out and does not know what happened.
"I do not think I have a problem with cocaine, I have problems when I drink too much. 364 days per year I am good. But if I drink too much, it's exactly like I change in my head," Boonen told Belgian Radio1.
The Quick Step sprinter was suspended by his team Saturday after it was announced that he had tested positive a second time for cocaine.
"I need help," he told sporza.be. "Someone should teach me to understand what happens when I drink too much."
He needs someone to teach him that when he drinks too much he blacks out and does stupid things?
Seems to me he already learned that lesson.

Fresh Brewed Trail
Actual riding has taken a back seat for now while I work on a trail project that I've been thinking about for a few years. There's been one section of trail on the side of a ridge out at Pets but it's never had a good entrance or exit to it. Mostly walk-a-bike kind of stuff. Plus the trail that is there has fallen into disrepair. This week Destiny, Zoe and I finished the exit to it. Brand new trail, fresh bench cuts with a couple of wicked switchbacks. Plus we started re-benching the old section.
By the time it's done it should be another 1.5 mile loop of singletrack. I'm keeping the very beginning of it hidden until the entire thing is done. One thing we had no choice to go with was using logs on the low sides of the bench cuts. Rocks are the preferable method but I found only one rock at Pets so logs will have to do. They'll erode over time but the trail will be well ridden and established by then. Now I just have to get JoeV, the master bridge builder out there to get us over a couple of ravines in the section.
